Teaching with Technology Demonstration
December 9, 1:30-3 pm, KT243
Pat Ashton, Sociology, and Ron Duchovic, Chemistry, will demonstrate how you can use the eInstruction classroom response system to focus your teaching and increase student participation. If you use or are interested in using Classroom Assessment Techniques* to make your lectures more dynamic, plan to come to this demonstration.
Purdue is the first university in the country to implement a system-wide license for using audience response pads in the classroom. (Purdue is featured on the eInstruction home page at http://www.einstruction.com). IPFW will be sharing the cost of the site license for the use of eInstruction. Start-up date is Spring 2005.
No registration required.
If you will be teaching online for the first time, this online tutorial could be useful.
Getting Started Online (http://vfc.project.mnscu.edu/)
This self-paced tutorial was designed for Minnesota college faculty members interested in learning more about teaching in an online environment, but it is generic enough to be useful almost anyone charged with the responsibility of designing and delivering online instruction. It offers a review of current literature in the field through readings on key topics, practical tips and suggestions for online teaching, and links to Internet resources for further study. The tutorial is divided into four modules, each of which also contain points to ponder, an instructional activity, and a short quiz. The modules include:
* Online vs. Face-to-Face Instruction
* Student Success Factors in an Online Learning Environment
* Starting Small: Using Web-Enhanced or Hybrid Delivery Methods
* Next Steps: Organizing Your Online Course

If you are looking for a conference in Hawaii or Florida try the Conference finder http://www.ctl.mnscu.edu/iteach/itrtcf.php. Minnesotans are good at this sort of thing. :-)
