Shared Distance Learning and Instructional Technology Meeting

On May 3rd instructional technolgists representing 5 area colleges and universities met at Ivy Tech for the first time to discuss shared issues and concerns around distance learning. Andaz Ahmad, Director of Instructional Technology at Ivy Tech (shown here) organized the event. The discussion focused on three major concerns that define the scope and quality of distance learning efforts on the respective campuses: time, money, and quality. Not surprisingly, the group members shared many of the same problems: prioritizing the many projects that come their way, getting money for projects, equipment, and personnel; re-acculturating faculty and providing enough training and support; addressing course re-design issues; inadequate infrastructure to support goals. The group was eager to collaborate. I offered to put something on the CELT blog about the meeting, and an email distribution list has been created.

I invite other members of the group to elaborate on our first meeting. If you are interested in joining this group please contact me at Rathbun@ipfw.edu or Andaz Ahmad at aahmad@ivytech.edu.
