Solid, Sane and Successful Teaching Strategies for Learner-centered Teaching

CELT’s spring survey revealed faculty members’ strong interest in enhancing skills
and strategies fundamental to successful university teaching: motivating students,
developing assessments, and integrating teaching technologies. This year’s
conference focuses on the building blocks of solid university teaching. The conference takes place in the Science Building at IPFW on Thursday, August 16, from 8:30 am - 3 pm. Registration should be completed online by 5 pm on Monday, August 13 at http://www.ipfw.edu/celt.

Todd Zakrajsek, Director of the Faculty Center for Innovative Teaching at Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, will help IPFW faculty learn strategies for Overcoming Apathy in the Classroom using what we know about the psychology of learning. Three sets of concurrent sessions led by IPFW and Indiana University faculty will offer strategies and tactics for motivating student learning, creating and using rubrics, implementing Classroom Assessment Techniques, using technology to foster critical thinking, class discussion, and responsible writing.

The conference is co-sponsored by the Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching (FACET) and CELT.
